Virginia L. Gildehaus, 88 , of Washington, passed away on July 22, 2022. Mrs. Gildehaus, daughter of the late Cornelius Alfermann and Gertrude nee Hoelscher, was born on March 18, 1934 in Krakow. She received her education from St. Gertrude’s School. On April 26, 1958, she was united in marriage to Armin “Pete” Gildehaus at the St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church.
Virginia worked 40 plus years at Droege’s while raising five children. With her free time she liked to cook, clean, and putter around the house. Her hobbies include canning, bowling, dancing, and music, but most of all she loved to entertain, especially at Christmas. Virginia’s first love was her family. She was a dedicated wife of 62 years, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed by her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pete Gildehaus, and two siblings, Marilyn “Dickie” Alfermann and Donald Alfermann.
Among her survivors are five children, Becky Slaten and husband Eddie of Sikeston, Brian Gildehaus and wife Sherry of Broken Arrow, OK, Brenda Cochran and husband Brian of St. James, Joe Gildehaus and wife Cathie of Dutzow, and Michele Gildehaus of St. Charles; siblings, David Alfermann and wife Cheryl of Washington, Melba Peters and husband Ralph of Washington, Carolyn McCoy of Washington, and Marilyn Giddings and husband David of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Emily Slaten and husband Andrew Fay, Matthew Slaten, David Gildehaus, and Mario Kriete and wife Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Ian Fay, Connor Fay, Chase Kriete, and Blaze Kriete; sister-in-law, Diana Alfermann; other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022 at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Gertrude’s Church.
