Todd Geisert Obituary

Todd Douglas Geisert, 54, a life-long resident of Washington, took the path to greener pastures on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

He was born March 5, 1969, in Columbia, MO to D. John Geisert and wife Karen, nee Yenzer.  He attended South Point Elementary, Washington Middle School and graduated from Washington High School.  He was united in marriage to Katherine “Katie” Pils, on July 25, 1992.  The couple made their home in Washington, MO.

Todd was a local farmer and entrepreneur known for raising and marketing “naturally raised happy pigs.”  He was an advocate for small Missouri farmers and sustainable agriculture.  He had creative marketing and social media skills and never missed an opportunity to promote his products.  His customers enjoyed interacting with him at his road-side market, especially the children who called him Farmer Toad.  He was a Niman Ranch Ambassador, being a spokesperson for pasture raised, quality pork.  St. Louis media featured him several times for his farm-to-table approach to doing business.

Todd was active in the community of Washington his whole life.  He served on the Washington Town and Country Fair Board from 1992-1998.  When he was nine years old, he came up with the idea of having a pedal tractor pull for children at the fair.  He was on the Franklin County Extension Council, an active member of the Washington Lions Club, serving as its president in 2012-2013, was elected to the Washington School Board for one term, and a supporter of the Washington High School FFA by serving on its Alumni Board.  He participated in and supported many Washington events and endeavors.

He is survived by his wife, Katie, nee Pils, son Ben J. Geisert, Labadie, and daughter, Alexis Geisert and fiancé, Shane Biffar of St. Ann; parents, D. John and Karen Geisert, Washington; brother Sean Geisert, Washington; sister, Joni Geisert Obermark, Labadie; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws, and friends who loved him.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7 from 3-8 pm at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, Washington.  A private scattering of ashes will be held later at the Geisert farm.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Washington High School’s FFA Alumni Association to provide scholarships for the advancement of the next generation of farmers.

The Geisert family was served by Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
