Thomas J. Briggs, 71 , of Washington, passed away on March 20, 2021. Mr. Briggs, son of the late Ivan Briggs and his wife Bernice NEE Haberberger, was born November 1, 1949 in Washington. He received his education from St. Francis Borgia High School. On January 31, 1970, he was united in marriage to Jane Straatmann at the Immaculate Conception Church in Union. Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the St. Louis Trap and Skeet Club, The Washington Brass Band, where he played trumpet, which he eventually passed on to his grandchildren. Tom was also a member of the Washington Volunteer Fire Dept. in the 1970’s, along with being a member of the Knights of Columbus in Washington. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, supporting each of them in their activities. He also enjoyed spending time with his siblings, reminiscing about their family genealogy and sharing memories. Tom was employed at Sporlan Valve until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jane Briggs; sister, Michelle Allemann; niece, Ami Briggs, and nephew, Jason Allemann.
Among his survivors are his fiance, Carolyn McCoy of Washington; four children, Scott Briggs and wife Buffy of St. Louis, Kristen Perriman and husband Mike of Washington, James Briggs and wife Theresa of Beaufort, and Morgan Bush and husband Erick of O’Fallon; siblings, Terry Briggs and wife Ardis of Washington, Jim Briggs and wife Christie of Washington, Becky Herbst and husband Tom of Marthasville, and Nancy Wood and husband Bill of Labadie; ten grandchildren, Cameron and Olivia Briggs, Kylee, Alexis, and Raegan Perriman, Connor, Gabriel, and Ian Briggs, and Brogan and Talon Bush; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 4-8 P.M. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, with a Funeral Mass beginning at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at St. Francis Borgia Church. Memorial donations can be made to the grandchildren’s education fund, checks payable to Morgan Bush.
