Terry K. Canupp, 83, of Washington, passed away on March 13, 2025. Mr. Canupp, son of the late Richard L. Canupp and Ruby M. Basham, was born on November 2, 1941, in Metropolis, IL. He graduated from Cairo High School in 1959. After further education he spent most of his professional life as a Physician’s Assistant in Radiology. On June 12, 1971, he was united in marriage to Judith Kersey in Mattoon, IL at the First Christian Church. Terry served his country honorably as a member of the Green Beret with the United States Army followed by time served in the Army Reserve.
Terry was a outdoorsman who enjoyed deer and turkey hunting with his best friend/brother Rick, daughter Laura, and friends. He enjoyed hiking, backpacking, running, cycling, reading, studying historical events, and watching his grandson Beckett play baseball. Terry was a member of the Washington Historical Society. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Among his survivors are his wife Judith “Judy” Canupp of Washington; two children, Kathryn Walters Scheel and husband Jeffrey of Wildwood and Laura Desmond and husband Richard of Washington; brother, Richard S. Canupp and wife Marilyn of Lititz, PA; grandchildren, Beckett Walters, Willow Scheel, Taylor Desmond(Cassidy) of Washington, Mackinze Desmond(Jamie) of Washington, and Sarah Desmond of Washington; great-grandchildren, Ivy Desmond and Malcolm Desmond; nephews, Scott (Adeline) and Nathan Canupp; loved extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on June 7th, 2025, at First Christian Church of Washington, MO, 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Memorial contributions can be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, Society for the Blind, or the First Christian Church in Washington.
