Sonny Alfermann

Sonny Alfermann (Francis Joseph) passed away on October 8, 2020, knowing the love of his family & friends.

He was born in Washington, MO on January 12, 1936 as the 3rd oldest in a family of seven children of Rudolph & Clara Alfermann. He attended St Francis Borgia Grade & High School and graduated in 1954.

Sonny retired from Eckelkamp Electric and was a proud member of IBEW Local #1.  He was a lifetime member of St Francis Borgia Catholic Parish, 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus & member of the Elks Lodge #1559 in Washington.  Over the years he has had several hobbies, but most important were his years raising & showing quarter horses and his friendships created on the golf course. In recent years he showed by example how to keep love alive while visiting his wife of 60 years at Cedarcrest Manor until her death in 2018 and how to accept life’s challenges since then.

He was survived by his children: Shelly Meyer & husband, Jerry of Washington, MO; Chad Alfermann of Washington, MO; Trisha Alfermann of Chicago, IL; Staci Harris & husband, Robert, of Annandale, VA; his grandchildren, Melissa Heitmann & husband, Jason of Washington, MO; Jeremy Meyer & wife, Kristin of Salem, OR; Cory Alfermann of Washington, MO, Jessica Bieker & husband Nate of Union, MO; his great-grandchildren, Nathan and Joseph Heitmann of Washington, Rylee, Izyc & Mavryc Bieker of Union, MO, Harrison Meyer of Salem, OR; siblings, Gen Garbs & husband Gus; Dennis, & wife Barb, all of Washington, MO;  Kathy Eikermann & husband, Don, of Texas; sister-in-law Barb Alfermann of Washington, MO; his in-laws:  Audrey Ruether of Washington, MO; Annette Ruether of Union, MO;  Steven Ruether & wife, Gail; Dan Ruether, Les Ruether & wife, Ann, all of Washington, MO

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary Alice Alfermann, his son, Rick Alfermann, his parents, Rudolph & Clara Alfermann, his siblings, Rose & husband, Roy Miller, Ruth Ann & husband, Wayne Schriewer, Rich Alfermann, his in-laws: Hugo & Elfrieda Ruether, Carl Ruether, Hook Ruether, Jim Ruether, Ron Ruether, Rich Ruether & Cheryl Ruether.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2020 from 5-8 P.M. at Nieburg-Vitt,Miller Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 9 A.M. at St. Francis Borgia Church. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Francis Borgia Church or the St. Francis Borgia High School.
