Shirley M. Fischer,92, of Washington, passed away on February 11, 2026. Mrs Fischer, daughter of the late Adolph Wunderlich and Rose nee Straatmann, was born on May 22, 1933, in Washington. On May 30, 1953, she was united in marriage to Alfred G. Fischer at the St. Francis Borgia Church.
Shirley M. Fischer was a strong constitutionally based American patriot, as witnessed, by her numerous letters to the editor of the Missourian She was a passionate, direct, brilliant and well-thought-out writer and speaker. No beating around the bush for Shirley. She was by the brains, and dad, Al, was the braun in the successes of the family and businesses, such as Fischer Oil. They made an awesome team.
Mrs. Fischer was a strong,loving, compassionate mother who was determined to get the job done, right. She loved fun, family parties, and celebrated each family member. She was so proud of each and every one. Mom enjoyed the Missouri River and Dundee activities with her family. Shirley and Al wanted everyone to enjoy the river and generously donated the land for the Washington courtesy dock and parking lot. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time at the clubhouse and especially looked forward to Christmas in July with her family. Shirley was self-educated, and a woman of great faith. She relied on that faith throughout her life and prayed that the right book and knowledge would touch her hands and mind when she needed it.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred G. Fischer; two children, Sarah Catherine Fischer and Michael Fischer and two sisters, Arline Bohle and Mary Ann Hellebusch Schuler.
Among her survivors are her children, Dr. Dale Fischer and wife Micki of Edwardsville, IL, Dr. Rosanne Fischer of Union, William Fischer and wife Linda of Washington, Dr. Al Fischer and wife Nancy of Washington, and Christopher Fischer and wife Jennifer of Union; daughter-in-law, Sharon Fischer of Dutzow; twenty grandchildren, Jessica Dendauw and husband Jonathan, Jaclyn Hardin and husband Scott of Alabama, Michael Fischer Jr. and significant other Sarah Fischer, Cameron Fischer, Collin Fischer and wife Chelsie, Christian Fischer and wife Danielle, Leo J. Peirick III and wife Ashley, Lauren Lawson and husband Austin, Rachel Fischer, Mollie Fischer, Joseph Fischer, Lindsey Luelf and husband Joel, Courtney Morris and husband Dan, Timothy Luelf, Adam Fischer and wife Julie, AJ Fischer and wife Megan, Anna Michel and husband Kyle, Andrew Fischer and wife Katie, Ava Fischer, and Colton Fischer; thirty one great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rosemary Kuhn of Slidell, LA; other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the St. Francis Borgia Church, with a Memorial Mass beginning at 12 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Right to Life or the Pregnancy Assistance Center.
