Ruth Sophia Lydia Marquart, nee Clover, of Washington, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the age of 94.
The daughter of A. Dewey and Lydia Johanna (Mueller) Clover, Ruth was born August 3, 1929, in Washington. She was baptized October 5, 1929, at St. Peter’s Church in Washington.
Ruth attended elementary schools in Aurora, Raymondville, and Willow Springs, Missouri and graduated from Washington High School in 1947. On October 13, 1951, she was united in marriage to David “Jo-Jo” Marquart at St. Francis Borgia Church. They celebrated 52 years together and five children blessed this marriage. Ruth and Jo-Jo lived in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Orlando, FL, and Pont-a-Mousson, France, while Jo-Jo served with the United States Army. They returned to Washington in 1955 and this is where they made their permanent home.
Ruth worked at Wonder Maid Garments, the commissary at Fort Leonard Wood, and at Magnet. While she enjoyed these jobs, she always said the best jobs she ever had were being a wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, great great grandma, and a day care provider. She loved attending concerts, plays, band competitions, sporting events, and whatever else her family was involved in. Ruth and Jo-Jo were proud to be founding members of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and were involved at the church and school in many ways.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Jo-Jo, granddaughter, Becky Breid Oldham, her parents, Dewey and Lydia Clover, siblings, Vic Clover, Dorothy Weiskopf, Betty Stuesse, and Dewey Clover, and her Clover and Marquart in-laws.
She is survived by her children, Gwen and husband John Borgmann, Dave and wife Karen Marquart, Kris and husband Jim Breid, Kevin and wife Shawn Marquart, and Matt Marquart and fiancée Shelley Aksamit; her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Dot Clover, other relatives, friends, and as she lovingly called them her “babysitting kids.”
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home in Washington. The funeral mass will be Friday, May 24, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Washington. Interment will be held privately at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes School, Bernadette’s Purse Tuition Fund, or St. Francis Borgia High School.
