Ruth Holtmeyer Obituary

Ruth M. Holtmeyer, 95, of Washington, passed away on September 6, 2022 in Washington. Mrs. Holtmeyer, daughter of the late Edward "Pap" Scheper and Mildred (nee Becker), was born on January 16, 1927 in Dayton, OH. She received her education from Villa Madonna Academy in Covington, KY and graduated from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music with a Master's Degree in Piano Music.

She came to Missouri after college, and was the first lay teacher at St. Francis Borgia High School, teaching music and serving as the parish organist/choir director, which she did for many years.  On June 11, 1955, she was united in marriage to Ardwin "Art" Holtmeyer at St. Francis Borgia Church and they raised their family in Washington.

Ruth was a talented musician, a superb seamstress, and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, quilting, and hosting parties and family get-togethers.  When the kids were a bit older, she worked at Wedding Creations, volunteered at St. John's Mercy Hospital and later at St. Francis Borgia High School.  She was truly a lady, an incredibly hard worker and generous to a fault.  Family was everything to Ruth and she loved doing things with and for her family more than any earthly possession.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Art, several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

She leaves her six children: Allen Holtmeyer and wife Cheri of St. Louis, Elaine Holtmeyer of St. Louis, Linda Weindel and husband Ed of St. Charles, Tom Holtmeyer and Cindy Boehm of Port Hudson, Sue Holtmeyer and Danny Unnerstall of Washington, Greg Holtmeyer and wife Gina of Washington.  She has seven grandchildren, Jenn Wilhelm and husband Eric, Adam Holtmeyer and wife Tessa, Scott Weindel and wife Britni, Catherine Weindel and husband Mike Camacho, Caitlin Niemeier and husband Chad, Hannah Holtmeyer, and Spencer Holtmeyer; 12 great-grandchildren; In-laws, Josephine Devine and husband Bob, Bernadette Miesner and husband Lloyd, Marita Straatmann and husband Maurice; other relatives and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with interment in the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Bernadette's Purse for tuition assistance at Our Lady of Lourdes grade school, St. Francis Borgia High School, and Mercy Hospice, as all these organizations are significant for Ruth.

Arrangements in care of Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
