Russell J. Schelich, 77, of Washington, passed away on February 3, 2024.
Mr. Schelich, son of the late John Schelich and Hilda nee Schroepfer, was born on February 3, 1947, in Washington. He received his education from St. Francis Borgia High School. On August 5, 1972, he was united in marriage to Marian Poepsel at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Washington.
Mr. Schelich served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army.
Russell worked at Sporlan Valve for 45 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and he loved hunting, fishing, and morel mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed classic cars and vintage tractors. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mike Schelich and Dennis Schelich.
Among his survivors are his wife, Marian Schelich of Washington; five children, Jody Saso of St. Charles, MO, John Schelich and wife Erin of St. Charles, MO, Jim Schelich and wife Tiffany of Union, Julie Kappauff and husband Ron of Washington, and Jackie Wehmeyer and husband Josh of Washington; two siblings, Jane Igo and husband Bob of Colorado Springs, CO and Joyce Barnett and husband Marty of Mankato, MN; nine grandchildren, Maria, Sadie, Hailey, Nolan, Tess, Cheyenne, Mary, Andrew, and Lainey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lana Schelich, widow of Dennis, Judy Johnson and husband Barry, Jerry Poepsel and wife Peggy, Bill Poepsel and wife Karen, Bob Poepsel and wife Sallie, Cindy Luecke and husband Rich, Tim Poepsel and wife Jill, and Jane Bowdish and husband Brett; other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Memorial mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at St. Francis Borgia Church. Interment with full military honors will be at the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Francis Borgia High School Athletic Association or the Missouri Dept. of Conservation.
