Robert Hillermann Obituary

Robert B. Hillermann, 91, of Washington, passed away on January 25, 2025. Mr. Hillermann, son of the late Peter A. Hillermann and Marie nee Kraft, was born on February 26, 1933, in Washington. He received his education from St. Francis Borgia High School. On September 7, 1957, he was united in marriage to Jane M. Renfert at the Immaculate Conception Church in Union.

He had many jobs in his life.  He was employed at Master Bakery from the late 50s to 1972 when he purchased the business.  He owned and operated it until 1979 when he closed the business and went to work at Anheuser Busch in the experimental bakery testing yeast.  He moved to the Corporate Research and Development Department where he helped develop Earth Grain Breads and Eagle Snacks as well as led the development project to bring Merico frozen pie dough to the market.  While working at Anheuser Busch, he earned his Master Baker’s Designation.

After his retirement, he worked for 14 years at The Chest where he enjoyed working with a lot of his old friends who were also working there in their retirement, as well as the new friends he made while working there.

Bob was an avid fisherman, canoeist, camper, hunter and he enjoyed his vegetable garden every year.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jane M. Hillermann; daughter, Brenda Richards; granddaughter, Theresa Hillermann, and siblings, Leonard Hillermann and wife Lucille, Maurice Hillermann, Bertha Eckelkamp and husband Maurice, Peter Hillermann, and Rosella Hillermann.

Among his survivors are his children, Bob Hillermann and wife Donna of Washington and Susan Kleekamp and husband Glenn of Washington; sister, Rosalyn Pursley and husband Vernon of Port Hudson; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; In-laws, Doris Hillermann of Washington, Angie Furlow and husband Jerry, Sandra O’Day, Dennis Renfert and wife Ellen, and Ron Renfert and wife Mary; loved ones and friends.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the St. Francis Borgia Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Gertrude Grade School.
