Richard G. Hatz, 90, of Washington, passed away peacefully at home on March 10, 2025. Richard (Dick) Hatz, son of the late Glennon Hatz and Verna nee Kreit, was born on September 12, 1934, in St. Louis. He received his education from Beaumont High School and Washington University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. On June 4, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jean Bartel at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in St. Louis.
From a young age, Richard developed a love for baseball playing on the sandlots in St. Louis. His baseball career ended with a shoulder injury while pitching for Washington University in St. Louis. He also developed a passion for the outdoors which he inherited from his father. His hunting and fishing would take him on many trips chasing fish and game although most of his time spent in the outdoors was in Missouri. He was particularly fond of hunting upland birds behind one of his beloved bird dogs. Baseball and the outdoors would remain a passion for the rest of his life (he was still catching fish at 90 years of age.)
His work life included twenty-five years of employment at McDonnell Douglas (Boeing), afterward he retired and moved to a farm near Belle, MO. where he fully enjoyed the outdoors, his involvement with the church, his membership in the local Lions club, and playing golf with friends. The farm was also a frequent destination for family and friends, particularly on the holidays. The last 13 years were spent living in Washington, MO. where he continued to pursue the same interests he had all his life.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul Hatz and son-in-law, Jeff Warren.
Among his survivors are his wife, Jean Hatz of Washington; two children, Bryan Hatz of Hewitt, TX and Susan Warren of Olathe, KS; two grandchildren, Mitchell Warren and Bennett Warren of Olathe, KS; brother-in-law, Larry Bartel of Cuba, MO.
A visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on March 22, 2025, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Interment will be in the Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorial contributions can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Washington, MO. or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
