Pauline M. Starek (nee’ Emann) was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She passed away peacefully with family by her side on September 16, 2024 at age 90.
She was born to Charles “Joe” Joseph and Cornelia Ida (nee’ Manhart) Emann on March 1, 1934 in Washington. After graduating from St. Francis Borgia High School in 1952, she met and married her husband, Rudolph “Rudy” John Starek. They raised their family together in Washington, where Pauline also worked for many years as a cook in several local eateries before finally retiring from the fabrics department at Walmart.
Pauline loved cooking for her family, sewing, crocheting, playing BINGO, solving crossword puzzles, Elvis Presley, watching old Westerns, and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. She created many precious memories - taking them fishing, picnic lunches, having tea parties, going to the park, coloring, baking, and sewing with them.
She is survived by four children: Becky Starek of Washington, Lynn Elbert (Neal) of Washington, Christie Gaddy (Garry) of Union, Neil Starek (Hattie) of Beaufort; five grandchildren: Josh Thoele, Doug Eaklor, Ellena Boren (Chris), Rudi Turner (Quinn), and Lou Starek; and three great-grandchildren: Skyylar, Quinn, and Ezra; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sons: Douglas John Starek and infant Neil Joseph Starek, one sister, Dolores A. Kriete and one brother, Donald Joseph Emann.
A visitation will be held for Pauline on Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. A Rosary Prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment will be in the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery.
