Opal Phipps Obituary

Opal Maxine Phipps, 97, of Vilas, NC, formerly of Washington, stepped into Glory, Saturday, January 11, 2025. Mrs. Phipps, daughter of the late William Shoemaker and Clara nee Goin, was born on September 23, 1927, in Princeton, NE. On December 6, 1952, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Phipps at the First Baptist Church in Washington.

Opal was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, using her talent for cooking and sewing. She served the Lord in her church and community.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Phipps; son, Wayne Phipps; daughter, Christine Nevills and husband Gary and three siblings, Kenneth Shoemaker and wife Blanch, Howard Shoemaker and wife Kathleen, and Mildred Hildebrand and husband Archie.

Among her survivors are her children, Karen Johnson and husband Alvin of Vilas, NC, Dean Mantle and wife Kathy of Centralia, MO, and David Phipps and wife Jane of Wildwood, MO; 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 9-10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Washington, with the funeral service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Wildey IOOF cemetery in Washington. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Washington.
