Mildred Klenke Obituary

Mildred M. Klenke, 96, of Washington, passed away on August 19, 2023. Mrs. Klenke, daughter of the late William Schroeder and Clara nee Weber, was born on September 27, 1926, in Washington. She received her education from St. Gertrude’s School. After graduating 8th grade, Mildred helped on the family farm, and later went to work at KDK Shoe Factory and then on to International Shoe. On November 28, 1957, she was united in marriage to Albert Klenke.  Their marriage was blessed with one daughter at which time she spent her time as a homemaker.  During this time, she also enjoyed being with family and friends, working with Klenke Catering.  

In 1989, she went to work for the Knights of Columbus Hall, cleaning kitchens 1 day a week for several years. In 1990 she started to clean the offices at Linmark Machine Products part-time until she retired a few years ago.  She enjoyed being part of the Linmark family.  

Mrs. Klenke spent a lot of her time volunteering at the KC Hall dinners and also was in charge of the country store at the St. Gertrude’s Parish for many years as well as social chair lady for the WCU.  She was a devoted catholic and a member of St. Gertrude’s Parish. Mildred was a great person and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Klenke, and two siblings, Ray and Delores Schroeder.

Among her survivors are her daughter, Joan Marquart, and husband Mitch of Washington; grandson, Todd Eckelkamp and wife Mindi of Washington; great- granddaughter, Makenna Eckelkamp of Washington; sister-in-law, Romana Schroeder; other relatives and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 9-10:30 a.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11 a.m. at St. Gertrude’s Church in Krakow. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Gertrude’s School or charity of choice.
