Melvin Roewe Obituary

Melvin Daniel Roewe, 82 , of Washington, passed away on October 25, 2021. Melvin, son of the late Edwin Roewe and his wife Reka nee Bueker, was born on April 16, 1939 in Warrenton, MO. He was baptized and confirmed at the Friedens United Church of Christ in Warrenton. He received his education from Warrenton High School. On August 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to Helen Boone.

Melvin was a veteran of the Air National Guard for 6 years and then worked in retail at an IGA store and a local gas station in Warrenton. In 1965, Melvin joined Ozark National Life. In 1971, Melvin opened the IGA store in Washington as the owner. In 1973, he returned to Ozark National life as Regional Manager and then retired in 1990 as Agency Director of Ozark National Life and President of NIS Financial Services. Melvin then continued on with his love for business as the owner of Directory Advertising from 1993-2001.

Mr. Roewe held multiple leadership positions, including the President of the Washington Chamber of Commerce, President of the St. Peter’s U.C.C. Church Council, President of the Rotary Club, and also served on the board at the Emmaus Home for 8 years.

He had a love for people and helping others. He enjoyed classic cars, farming, driving his boat on the lake and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Gladys Corder, Darlene Wilmsmeyer, and Leroy Roewe.

Among his survivors are his wife, Helen Roewe; five children, Becky Roehrs and husband Kevin, Dan Roewe and significant other Nancy Klemenok, Tim Roewe, Andy Roewe and wife Callie, and Bill Roewe and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Shawn Roehrs and wife Daniella, Lindsay Arnette and husband Andy, Josh Roehrs and wife Patti, Stephanie Dare and husband Jorden, Scott Roewe and wife Courtney, Samantha Redell and husband Chris, Shannon Roewe and fiance Austin Widema , Seth Roewe, Lauren Roewe, Amy Roewe, Logan Roewe, AJ Roewe, Zach Roewe, Megan Roewe, Elena Roewe, Ethan Roewe, and Evan Roewe; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Pettig; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 4-8 P.M. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 11 A.M. at the St. Peter’s U.C.C. in Washington. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Peter’s U.C.C. or the American Cancer Society.
