Obituary

Marian E. Gerling, 93, of Washington, passed away on August 4, 2023. Mrs. Gerling, daughter of the late Elmer Pruessner and Frances nee Giebler, was born on June 23, 1930 in New Haven. She received her education from New Haven High School. On October 14, 1950, she was united in marriage to Alvin Gerling at St. Peter’s U.C.C. in New Haven.

Mrs. Gerling loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed going dancing with her husband Alvin and traveling. Marian was a longtime member of St. Peter’s U.C.C. in Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin Gerling; three siblings, Clara Jane Wolff, Robert Pruessner, Don Pruessner, and by two son-in-laws, Wendell Schneider and Steve Balven.

Among her survivors are two daughters, Judy Schneider and Nancy Balven, both of Washington; grandchildren, Jennifer Kroeter and husband Matt, Matt Balven, John Balven, Kelly Schneider and husband Jon Genthe, and Clint Schneider and wife Keli; great-grandchildren, Luke Kroeter, Ella Kroeter, Lydia Genthe, Alex Genthe, Lyla Schneider, Weslee Schneider, Jack Balven, Angel Balven, and Hazel Balven; other relatives and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. at St. Peter’s U.C.C. in Washington, with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to St. Peter’s U.C.C. or the Diabetes Association.
