Margaret A. James, 86, of Washington, passed away on August 22, 2023. Mrs. James, daughter of the late Fred Hallemann and Mary Ann nee Ruch, was born on September 2, 1936, in New Haven. She received her education from St. Francis Borgia High School and began her career as a teacher. On June 8, 1957, she was united in marriage to Lonnie L. James at Assumption Catholic Church in New Haven. She earned her Master’s Degree in Private School Administration from the University of San Francisco and served many years as a teacher and then Principal of Sacred Heart Catholic School in Lancaster, CA.
Mrs. James loved to travel and work in the garden. She also volunteered for Mercy Hospice and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lonnie James; siblings, Rose Rita Hallemann, Anthony Hallemann, Leo Hallemann, and by in laws, Kay Hallemann, Ray McDonald, and Jerri Hallemann.
Among her survivors are two children, Paula James Kaplan of South Bend, IN, and Jackie James-Bond and husband Lee of Ventura, CA; siblings, Fred Hallemann, Mary Lou McDonald, Virginia Holzem, Carrol Klingsick, and Ray Hallemann; grandchildren, Heather DaCosta, Amanda Kaplan, Sean Kaplan, Elizabeth Bond, T.J. Bond, and Justin Bond; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives, and many friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment will be in the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mercy Hospice, 1351 Jefferson Street Suite 206, Washington, MO 63090.
