Leona M. Wellenkamp,98, of Washington, passed away on March 27, 2026. Mrs. Wellenkamp, daughter of the late Ben Schaefer and Ida nee Tielman, was born on April 28, 1927, in Washington. She received her education from St. Vincent’s School in Dutzow. On October 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ed Wellenkamp at St. Vincent’s Parish in Dutzow.
Leona loved needlework and found great joy in creating beautiful quilts from a variety of fabrics. Her creativity and attention to detail were evident in every piece she crafted, making her quilts cherished treasures among family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed Wellenkamp; four siblings, Martha Michel, Hilda Hennecke, Andrew Schaefer, Tony Schaefer, and daughter-in-law, Linda Wellenkamp.
Among her survivors are her children, Beverly Miller of Carson City, NV, Wanda Randolph and husband Norm of Fenton, Jerry Wellenkamp of Norman, OK, and Jim Wellenkamp of Krakow; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Jenerra, Eddie, Michelle, Shari, and Nicole; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 9-10 a.m. at St. Gertrude’s Church in Krakow, with a memorial mass beginning at 10 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to the New Haven Care Center.
