Leola M. Unnerstall, 94, of Washington, passed away on May 14, 2024. Mrs. Unnerstall, daughter of the late Frank Bleckman and Anna nee Sellmeyer, was born on April 27, 1930, in Washington. She received her education from St. Francis Borgia High School. On December 29, 1951, she was united in marriage to Norbert “Nib” Unnerstall at St. Francis Borgia Church.
Leola loved taking care of her yard, still cutting grass at the age of 89. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Mrs. Unnerstall was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norbert “Nib” Unnerstall; two children, Sharon and Lisa Unnerstall; two brothers, Norman “Spanky” Bleckman and Allen “Popeye” Bleckman; brother-in-law, Daniel Ritter and sister-in-law, Mary Bleckman.
Among her survivors are two children, Mark Unnerstall and wife Joan of Washington and Marsha Meyer and husband Robert of Marthasville; sister, Georgia Ritter of Washington; grandchildren, Aaron Unnerstall and wife Shannon of Lake St. Louis, Erica Ryals and husband Zach of Washington, Patrick Meyer and wife Nicole of Marthasville, Kevin Meyer of Marthasville, Andrew Meyer of Chicago, IL, and Rebecca Rehmeier and husband Brian of Augusta; great-grandchildren, Peyton Unnerstall, Teddy Ryals, Jack Rehmeier, Emma Rehmeier, and Allie Rehmeier; in-laws, Carol Bleckman of Washington, Agnes Brinker and husband Leonard of Washington, and Theola Unnerstall of Washington; nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 9-10:30 a.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, with a Memorial Mass beginning at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Memorial donations can be made to Our Lady of Lourdes School or the Franklin County Humane Society.
