Lee Nolting Obituary

Lee Ann Nolting, 66, of St. Louis, formerly of Washington, passed away on December 16, 2022. Ms Nolting, daughter of the late Wayne Nolting and Agnes Meinershagen, was born on February 2, 1956 in Washington. She received her education from Washington High School.

 Lee's world revolved around dance. She excelled early making headlines touring the country with Dean Martin and the Golddiggers during 1974-75. Upon her return to St. Louis, Lee taught dance at numerous studios namely the Center of Creative Arts where with the help of several directors, she started the dance program and helped form COCA Dance company in 1992. She performed at the MUNY Opera many seasons and choreographed numerous shows in the St. Louis area. She received numerous awards throughout her teaching years including 2010 Outstanding Arts Educator Visionary Award from the Grand Center organization and the 2014 Excellence in the Arts award form the St. Louis Arts Award Council. Lee was a second “mom” and mentor to her dancers many who went on to have professional careers. Lee was passionate about her family and loved spending time with her niece and nephews watching them at their various sporting events.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darryl Braddix and brother-in-law, Michael Clifton.

Among her survivors are two siblings, Kay Clifton of Long Island, NY and Jo Phinney and husband John of Washington; nieces and nephews, John Phinney and wife Jessica, Max, Cole, and Alex Phinney and Elizabeth and Christopher Clifton; other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on January 8, 2023 at 1 p.m. at COCA- Center of Creative Arts, 6880 Washington Ave., St. Louis, MO 63130. Memorial donations can be made to COCA, Lee Nolting Scholarship Fund, or the Lee Nolting Students First Faculty Award.
