LaVerne M. Nowak

LaVerne M. Nowak, 93, of Washington, passed away on August 16, 2024. Mrs. Nowak, daughter of the late Cyril Lause and Barbara nee Voss, was born on May 14, 1931, in Washington. She received her education from St. Francis Borgia High School. On June 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to Julian (Corky) Nowak at St. Ann’s Church in Clover Bottom.

She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She never shied away from hard work and helping others, even willing to help on the farm and butchering. She enjoyed cooking and made some of the best home made bread and cinnamon rolls.

What a wonderful person she was, to live so long, having ten beautiful kids. Always thinking of them, sometimes forgetting about herself. She made sure we went to church, and taught us prayers. She was always there to help someone else's needs, giving up her own. Life wasn't always easy, but she made ours and others a little easier

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Julian (Corky) Nowak; son, Joe Nowak; two son-in-laws, Herbie Nevills and Ed Bard; daughter-in-law, Helen Nowak; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernice Bade and husband Jim, Norma Mueller and husband Art, Bob Lause and wife Patsy, Oliver Nowak, Edmund Nowak and wife Francis, Elvira Elbert and husband Urban, Lorraine Elbert and husband Norbert, Rosalie Bargen and husband Gus, Leona Gratza and husband Robert.

Among her survivors are nine children, Michael Nowak, Barb Nevills, Debbie Beste and husband Mark, Donna Bard, Angie Groene and husband Steve, Pam Gildehaus, Karl Nowak and wife Lori, Sheila Brinker and husband Danny, and Matt Nowak and wife Pam; twenty four grandchildren, thirty nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the St. Gertrude’s Church in Krakow. Interment will be in the St. Ann’s Cemetery in Clover Bottom. Memorial contributions can be made to Masses at St. Gertrude, St. Gertrude’s School, or St. Francis Borgia Regional High School Athletic Association.
