Obituary

Karen L. Jensen, 80, of Washington, passed away on September 7, 2023. Mrs. Jensen, daughter of the late George Thorpe and Toledo nee Holtwick, was born on August 28, 1943, in Washington. She received her education from Washington High School. On December 23, 1961, she was united in marriage to Walter Jensen at the Old Baptist Church in Washington. They were married 53 years before his passing.

Karen began working at Hazel right after graduating high school. She remained through multiple company names and location changes. She retired after 40+ years. When her boys were young, she was a Cub Scout den mother. Mrs. Jensen loved going to auctions, collecting dolls and antiques. Karen enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and making quilt tops. Her treadle sewing machine was her preferred way to sew. She was a volunteer and instructor at Exceptional Equestrians for more than 20 years. She began as a simple side walker and progressed her way to instructor. She loved being able to help others reach their potential. The EE group was like a second family to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Jensen; sister, Kathleen Bowles and grandson, Lance Jensen.

Among her survivors are her children, Sandy Jensen of Washington, Terry Jensen of Washington, and Heather Suerig and husband Travis of Beaufort; grandchildren, Wade Suerig, Victoria Suerig, Kyle Suerig and wife Abbigail, Sandy Jensen Jr. and wife Amy, Christal Jensen, and Tiffany Jensen; seven great-grandchildren,other relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Exceptional Equestrians.
