Joseph “Joe” Anthony Tobben, age 65, of Washington, Missouri passed away surrounded by his family on October 3, 2023, in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born on December 26, 1957, to Lawrence and Evelyn (Beuke) Tobben in Washington, Missouri.
Joe was united in marriage to Julia (Fritsch) Tobben on November 29, 2002.
He was a member of St Francis Borgia Church in Washington, Missouri, where he formerly served as an usher.
Joe graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School in 1976. He attended Four Rivers Career Center and East Central College where he obtained certificates in machinery and industrial maintenance. Joe continued to acquire many new skills over the years, which he used in the different jobs he worked along his career path. Most of all, he enjoyed being an industrial maintenance mechanic. Joe took great pride in his career at Parker Hannifin in Washington, Missouri, where he worked for many years.
Joe was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was often found with a smile on his face and always enjoyed a good joke. Joe was a true family man and was actively involved in his children's lives in various ways. He was enthusiastic about coaching baseball for his son, attending sporting events, helping with school projects, and being present for all the momentous occasions over the years.
Joe would spend hours playing board games or watching Hallmark movies while munching on his favorite snack of rice krispies treats. He was a master bread baker, and gifted many scrumptious loaves throughout the years. He enjoyed waking up early to go trout fishing at his favorite location, Maramec Spring Park. Joe loved to share fishing stories with his family and friends.
Above all, Joe was proud of his children and never missed an opportunity to speak of their accomplishments. He was loved immensely and will be greatly missed.
Joe is survived by his wife Julia Tobben of Washington, MO; son, Benjamin Tobben and daughter, Dr. Ashley DeBoeuf both of Tampa, FL; brothers, Raymond Tobben and wife Diana of Washington, MO, Lawrence Tobben and wife Sharon of Union, MO, Leo Tobben and wife Roxanne of Washington, MO; Sisters, Betty Jo Bruckerhoff and husband Richard of Marthasville, MO, Nancy Moore and husband Milton of Wallingford, VT, Mary Ley and husband Jerome of Washington, MO, and Sister M. Paula Tobben of St. Louis, MO; sister-n-law, Mary Tobben of Washington, MO; Brother-in-law, William Fritsch and wife Kristi of Owensville, MO; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Evelyn Tobben; parents-in-law, Terry and Barbara Knight and William and Linda Fritsch; brothers, Anthony Tobben and wife, Elaine, Maynard Tobben, Roger Tobben, and Jerry Tobben; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Tobben, in infancy, and Diana Stevens and husband Jim; and beloved family pet golden retriever of 14 years, Goldy Tobben.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, with a memorial service beginning at 12 p.m. Memorial donations are to the family’s choice
