Joseph N. Heather Jr., 77, of Washington, passed away on August 24, 2025. Mr. Heather, son of the late Joseph Heather Sr. and Alice nee Schler, was born on October 21, 1947, in Boonville, MO. He received his education from the Boonville School District. On May 6, 1967, he was united in marriage to Sharon Williams at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington.
Throughout his life, Joe dedicated himself to a variety of jobs and served his community in many capacities. His career path was as diverse as it was industrious, including work at Phillip Transit Lines, Wendells Service Station, Long Ford and Barreth Chrysler, Canam Steele, Riechers Tire, Schnucks, and Washington West Elementary. In each role, Joe was known for his reliability and warm, friendly nature, forging lasting relationships with colleagues and patrons alike.
Outside of work, Joe’s life was shaped by his love for baseball. From his earliest days, he relished playing the game, a passion that followed him throughout adulthood and later evolved into coaching both baseball and softball. Sharing these experiences with local youth and his own family brought him deep joy. Joe also cherished moments tinkering in his garage, and looked forward to hunting trips with his sons and grandchildren, where stories and laughter were always plentiful. Above all, he took immense pride in his role as a father and grandfather, treasuring family time and celebrating their accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sharon Heather.
Among his survivors are his children, Tamara Heather-Chappius and husband Jim of Washington, Jodi Pohl and husband Glen of Washington, Andrew Heather of Hermann, Dustin Heather of Washington, and Kari Heather of Florissant; siblings, Diana Ledgerwood and husband Terry of Columbia, MO and Karen Starnes and husband Wayne of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Hunter Wilkinson and fiance Josh Privett, Jordan Pohl, Bradley Pohl and wife Kayla, Chelsea Pohl, Thomas Heather, Collin Heather and Baylee Starke, Logan Heather, Emily Chappius, Kamdyn Heather, Alex Chappius, and Peyton Pohl; aunt, Velma Flippin of Pilot Grove; other relatives and friends.
