John R. Luechtefeld, 71, of Washington, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024. Mr. Luechtefeld, son of the late Alphons Luechtefeld and Clara nee Schroepfer, was born on June 15, 1952, at Port Hudson, Missouri. He was a graduate of Washington High School. On February 7, 1976, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Scheible at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Washington.
John was employed by the City of Washington Parks Department from 1986 until his retirement in 2018. John dedicated more than 30 years of service to the community working on countless projects and maintenance for the Washington Parks Department.
John enjoyed the outdoors. He especially enjoyed barbecuing, gardening, tractors, and mushroom hunting. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on tractors and lawn mowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Robert Beuke, Lawrence Beuke, Philip Luechtefeld, and mother and father-in-law, Linda and Elmer Scheible.
Among his survivors are his wife, Marilyn Luechtefeld of Washington; three daughters, Gayle Luechtefeld of Washington, Amy Hellmann and husband Darren of Washington, and Kim Luechtefeld of Washington; three siblings, Lillian Danz of Washington, Marian Enke and husband Jim of Cuba, and Charlie Luechtefeld and wife Dianne of New Haven; four grandchildren, Chloe McCarthy, Austin Hellmann, Ashlyn Hellmann, and Leo Koti; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale Scheible and wife Debbie of Washington and David Scheible and wife Kay of Washington; other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at St. Gertrude’s Church, with interment in the church cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Knights of Columbus Journey for Charity Tractor Cruise.
