Jean Murney

Jean M. Murney, 88, of Washington, passed away on July 18, 2025. Mrs. Murney, daughter of the late Richard Pinnell and Anastasia nee Bertelsmann, was born on January 19, 1937, in Washington. Jean was a Registered Nurse and received her education from William Woods College, Missouri Baptist School of Nursing, and Washington University. On October 15, 1975, she was united in marriage to Joseph Murney M.D.

Mrs. Murney was head of the Emergency Dept. at St. Francis Hospital for many years and later became the office manager her husband’s practice. Jean was active in many organizations throughout her life and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Washington. Always an avid gardener, she was a past President of the Washington Garden Club, served as chairwoman of the Floriculture and Horticulture Show at the Washington Town and Country Fair, and judged flower shows at the Missouri Botanical Garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Joseph Murney, and sister, Joan Schultz.

Among her survivors are three nieces, Kelly Kopmann and husband Joe of Washington, Nancy Schultz of Wentzville, and Kristy Schultz of Washington; great-nephew, Jack Kopmann and wife Kate of Union and and great-niece Kate and husband Matthew Revelle of Ballwin.

Funeral services will be private. Interment will be held in the St. Peter’s U.C.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of choice.
