Janice Marks Obituary

Janice K. Marks, 82, of Washington, passed away on February 11, 2026. Janice, daughter of the late James “Bud” Williamson and Goldie nee Payne, was born on April 14, 1943, in Sullivan, MO. She received her education from Sullivan High School. On June 15, 1963, she was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Marks at the Episcopal Church in Sullivan.

When she moved to Washington in 1979, Janice worked for Hazel for several years.  After Hazel downsized, Janice went to work at Town & Country Nursery for her daughter and son-in-law. Janice loved working with flowers in the greenhouse and talking to customers. She was still working at the time of her passing.

She stayed close to her high school friends and loved meeting them for lunch once a month. Janice liked going to her grandkids sporting events and spending time with them at family Sunday dinners. She also enjoyed visiting the casino and trying her luck at the slot machines. Her favorite time was getting together with her sister Judy and cousin Bruce. When the three got together the laughter was infectious.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Marks; father-in-law Walter Marks Sr., mother-in-law Noreen Marks, sister-in-law, Judith Kramer and brother-in-law, Walter Marks Jr.

Among her survivors are two children, Jill Heggemann and husband Kenny of Marthasville and Jeremy Marks of Washington; Atanas Atanasova and wife Leslie of Houston, TX; sister, Judy Carey and husband Donnie of Sullivan; grandchildren, Allie Strobel and husband Cody, Kaylee Heggemann and significant other David Kotz, Wil Heggemann and significant other Grace Demetrician, Laney Marks, Cole Marks, Lessie Atanasova, Niko Atanasova, and Maria Grace Atanasova; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
