James S. Schwaller,67, of Washington, passed away on April 17, 2026. James, son of the late Maurice Schwaller and Dolores nee Schroeder, was born on April 15, 1959, in Washington. He received his education from St. Francis Borgia High School.
Jim worked much of his young life for Patke’s Farm Dairy. He not only worked at the store, but helped Al on the farm, milking cows and making ice cream. It was a job he truly loved. Jim then worked for many years in the maintenance department at Sporlan Valve. He was the type of person who could fix anything.
After Retirement, Jim devoted much of his time volunteering. He worked countless hours for the SFB Food pantry. Jim also worked many events at the Elks and was Exalted Ruler in 1993-1994. Jim volunteered for the Knights of Columbus in many aspects, including a number of tasks surrounding their Sunday dinners. He was one of those who barbecued the famous pork steaks each week along with working at the dinners. His service to the Washington Community will be greatly missed.
Jim was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. Later in life he most often went to mass at St. Francis Borgia, where he was an usher.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Among his survivors are his significant other, Nancy Steffens of Washington; three siblings, Diane Schwaller of St. Simon Island, GA, John Schwaller and wife Julia of Palm Bay, FL, and Karen Brinker and husband Maurice of Villa Ridge; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
