Irma Pelster Obituary

Irma H. Pelster, 91, of Washington, passed away on May 18, 2023. Irma, daughter of the late Alfred Kormeier and Mildred nee Althage, was born on February 15, 1932 in New Haven. She graduated from Washington High School.

On June 1, 1952, Irma was united in marriage to Howard Pelster. They were married for 60 years and were wonderful parents to three surviving children, Philip Pelster and wife Mary Ann of Washington, Peggy Devoy and husband Sean of Ballwin, and Jana Threlkeld and husband Steve of Dallas, TX. Irma and Howard were blessed with 8 grandchildren, Bridget Bitza and husband Steve of St. Charles, MO, Sarah Ikhianosen and husband Ronse of Odessa, FL, Eric Threlkeld and wife Allison of Dallas, TX, Andrew Threlkeld and wife Katherine of Austin, TX, Michael Pelster and wife Lauren of Washington, Jackson Devoy and wife Jaimie of St. Charles, MO, and Hannah Harrison and husband Jermaine of Dallas, TX. In 2017, Irma was preceded in death by her grandson, Sean Samuel Devoy, while he was serving in the United States Army. Irma’s pride and joy was her family and her 15 great-grandchildren, who all adored their Gigi. Irma is also survived by her sisters, Elsie Nice and Janette Bauche and husband Warren; sister-in-law, Babs Kormeier and brother-in-law, Steve Bertrand. She will be greatly missed, but more than anything, she will be remembered.

A lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Irma was baptized, confirmed, and married at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leslie, MO. She later became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington. She enjoyed singing in the choir for more than 60 years and served in many other capacities including teaching Sunday School, Ladies Aid, and other Women’s Ministry Committees.

Professionally, Irma owned Boland Real Estate prior to her retirement in 1999. She also served as Executive Secretary of the Franklin County board of Realtors, President of the Women’s Council of Realtors, and a past member of the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Irma was a wonderful hostess and loved to entertain her family and many friends. She was fantastic at cooking and needle work and made many, many cross stitch quilts for her loved ones.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Mildred Kormeier; husband, Howard Pelster; grandson, Sean Samuel Devoy; brother, James Kormeier; sister, Kathy Bertrand; mother and father-in-law, Louis and Emma Pelster; nephew, Tim Nice and brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene Nice, Edward and Ruth Gardner, and Harold and Erika Pelster.
