Helen L. Desmond,100, of Washington, passed away on August 23, 2025. Mrs Desmond, daughter of the late August Homeyer Sr. and Florene nee Meise, was born on June 1, 1925, in New Haven. She received her education from Washington High School. On December 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to James Desmond at the Casco Evangelical Church.
Helen found joy and fulfillment in her many hobbies and passions. She spent countless hours working on crafts, pouring her creativity into each project she undertook. Quilting was a particular delight, and her hands would skillfully transform simple fabrics into cherished heirlooms. Helen’s adventurous spirit led her on numerous bus trips with her sisters, exploring new places and creating treasured memories along the way. In her younger years, she loved riding horses on the farm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Desmond; daughter, Mary Flanagan; siblings, August Homeyer Jr., Marjorie Wilke, Harvey Homeyer, Loraine Boland, Dorothy Jones, Florene Neier, Eleanor “Penny” Brown, Earl Homeyer, and brother-in-laws, Stanley Wilke, Norman Boland, Ralph Jones, James Neier, and sister-in-law, Lucille Homeyer.
Among her survivors are five children, John Desmond and wife Marti of Washington, Robert Desmond and wife Diane of Washington, David Desmond and wife LaDonna of Washington, Kenneth Desmond and wife Lynda of Stanton, and Mark Desmond of Washington; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Claude Brown; other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. at St. Peter’s U.C.C. in Washington, with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Peter’s U.C.C. in Washington.
