Gregory Gates Obituary

Gregory Michael Gates, Washington, Missouri, departed this earth Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

Gregory was born March 10, 1976 in St. Louis, Missouri.  He was the oldest of six children of David and Judith, nee Herbst, Gates.

Gregory graduated from Union High School, Union, Missouri.

On April 24, 2010 he was united in marriage to Andrea Michels at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Washington.  They made their home in Washington where they have resided for the last eleven years.

Gregory was always happy while spending time with his family and friends.  He was a great big brother and watched over his brothers and sisters with love.  He especially enjoyed helping coach his nephews’ t-ball and baseball games.  Greg never tired of listening and singing to music, especially to the sounds of country music.  Some of Greg’s enjoyments included cooking for others, playing card games and, of course, watching and attending baseball games.  Gregory had received awards in a number of sports, including archery, basketball, wresting, bowling, and diving during his school days.  After graduation, Greg began to really enjoy the sport of fishing.  He looked forward to tournament fishing with his brother.  Gregory looked forward to the annual “men only” float trips with his brothers, nephews, uncles and male cousins.  It was an exciting event for him.

Gregory will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and willingness to help others.

He is survived by his wife, Andrea (Washington); his daughter Brenna (Kansas City); mother, Judith (Washington); five siblings: Ryan Gates and wife Trisha (Washington); sister Deanna Gates (St. Louis); sister Lara Buchek and husband Timothy (St. Louis); sister Kimberly Gates (New Haven); brother Thomas Gates and wife Julie (St. Louis); eight nieces and nephews: Liam Michels, Maxwell MIchels, Camden Gates, Evan Gates, Marshall Gates, Dorothy Gates, Harrison Buchek and Josephine Heriford; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Gates.
