Gladys Lohmeyer Obituary

Gladys L. Lohmeyer, nee Steinberg, was born on August 10, 1932 and passed away on July 22, 2022. She was 89 years old.

Gladys was born at her grandparents’ home in rural Labadie, MO, to the late Frank Steinberg and wife Olivia nee Schuster. She was educated at the Oakfield Elementary School in Pacific, MO and then graduated from Washington High School in 1950. She also attended and graduated from Rubicam Business School in St. Louis, MO.

She was united in marriage to the late Kenneth D. Lohmeyer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington, MO on April 12, 1953. They were blessed with three children, Deena, Marty, and Jim.

Gladys started her career as a secretary at General Electric Wire and Cable Division, St. Louis, MO. She then worked for Otto and Company Furniture Store, Washington, MO and eventually Immanuel Lutheran Church and School, Washington, MO where she was the secretary. Following her retirement, she continued to work and volunteer at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, also in Washington.

Gladys loved to be with people and serve the Lord. She was a devoted and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served many years as organist, pianist, and adult choir accompanist. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Merry Mates, Earnest Workers, Board of Christian Care, and Board of Finance.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Lohmeyer; daughter, Deena Laird of Arenzville, IL, and daughter-in-law, Christine Lohmeyer of Union, MO.

Among her survivors are two sons, Marty Lohmeyer of Union, MO and Jim Lohmeyer and wife Stacey of Machesney Park, IL; one brother, Vernon Steinberg and wife Ruth of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Justin and Sara Lohmeyer of Union, MO; step-grandchildren, Tyler Hathorn of Machesney Park, IL; Adam Hathorn wife Anna and their two children, Paisley and Peyton of Janesville, WI; other relatives and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the funeral service beginning at 12 p.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations are preferred to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Washington, MO
