Frances L. Saucier, 94, of Washington, passed away on September 15, 2024. Mrs. Saucier, daughter of the late Bernard (Ben) and Lucille (nee Selz) Buhr, was born on January 18, 1930, in Washington. She received her education from St. Francis Borgia High School. On May 3, 1952, she was united in marriage to William E. Saucier at the St. Francis Borgia Church.
Frances was an artistic and resourceful woman. As a young mother she loved to play volleyball and coach her younger daughters’ grade school volleyball teams. She loved to sew, quilt and play cards. She was a weekly quilter at St. Francis Borgia and Our Lady of Lourdes, and an active member of the SFB Ladies Sodality. Along with many of her friends, she was one of the dessert ladies at the K of C Friday Fish Fry. A self-taught painter, she learned her skills from Bob Ross on Channel 9. She belonged to the K of C Auxiliary and helped cater for many events. Get-togethers with family and friends frequently involved board games, or more often card games. Pinochle was the family game of choice, but she enjoyed a good poker game too. Frances always had a project. She loved to travel with her friends and see the sites, but she always loved coming home. As life slowed down, she turned to reading, Scrabble, gin rummy and enjoying her family. She loved a good puzzle on a rainy day. The motto she lived by was "run as hard as you can as fast as you can as long as you can". She was dedicated to her church and helped whenever asked. She accepted challenges and conquered all, never desiring recognition for her work. Most of all, Frances was a loving mother and grandmother and role model for all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Saucier; siblings, Karl Buhr and wife Helen, Katie Marquart and husband Vern, Bess Frederick, and son-in-law, Donald Burhans.
Among her survivors are five children, Thomas Saucier and wife Mary of Washington, Claire Saucier of Washington, David Saucier and wife Kathy of Washington, Ann Morgan and husband Tim of Washington, and Jean Skouby and husband Earnest of Holts Summit, MO; grandchildren, Kimberly, Bill, Corinne, Amelia, Ali, Theresa, and Elisa; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Nathan, and Alexander; other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 8-10 a.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Francis Borgia Church. Interment will be in the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Francis Borgia Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, or St Francis Borgia Regional High School.
