Eunice Irene Elbert, nee Buhr, passed on February 4, 2023, at the age of 86. Eunice was the only daughter of Edward and Christine, nee Rademacher, Buhr.
Eunice was the mother of three children, Christine, Matthew and Brian Elbert, wife to Ronald J Elbert and dearest friend of Judy Cortner. Grandmother to Louis Beltran, Brian Elbert Jr., Casey Bailey, Jessica Bean, Ethan Hassler, and Noah Elbert. Great-grandmother to Colton, Averie and Easton Beltran, Keira and Gwendylan McClung, Parker Bailey, Hayden, Paityn, Cameron and Anistyn Bean, Sofia Hassler, and Ilya soto.
Eunice was the neighborhood "mom" with the extra hats and scarves or kool-aid as the seasons changed. She was the cool aunt you could always talk to. She was the grandmother/great-grandmother of museums and magical mystery adventures.
Eunice was a wordsmith. She was an avid reader and delighted in good conversation. One of her great joys was sitting with good friends and discussing anything and everything. She always made you think. Her open mind and open heart gave the gift of knowing you were always seen and heard. Eunice had the ability to make everyone feel special and believed that compassion was an action. She also knew how to send the perfect card at the perfect time.
Eunice had been an owner of Elm Street Company in Washington, Missouri, where she delighted in making sure everyone could find the perfect card, gift or special something. Along with complimentary gift wrapping, she also offered some of the most wonderful over-the-counter conversations, be they 10 seconds or a little past closing time.
Eunice's quiet, gentle strength was a light in the world and for those who knew her, she was a gift.
Eunice donated her body to Saint Louis University Medical School.
