Doris M. Skornia, 95, of Washington, passed away on July 1, 2023. Mrs. Skornia, daughter of the late Herman Wildt and Katherine nee Zwicke, was born on January 11, 1928 in Washington. She received her education from St. Francis Borgia Grade School. On March 31, 1948, she was united in marriage to Leon “Skip” Skornia at St. Francis Borgia Church.
Mrs. Skornia enjoyed quilting and sewing, especially pillows. She also loved going camping with family, spending time outdoors, and playing pinochle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Skip; siblings, Sr. Kenneth Wildt, Mildred Skouby, Paul Wildt, Kenneth Wildt, and grandson, Kurt Skornia.
Among her survivors are her children, Dan Skornia and wife Karen of Washington, Tom Skornia and wife Sheila of Washington, Glennon Skornia and wife Brenda of Washington, Susan Eckelkamp and husband Tom of Washington, and Kristi Kriebaum of Washington; siblings, Helen Hanneken of Villa Ridge, Donald Wildt and wife Barbara of Washington, and Carol Straatmann and husband Albert of Villa Ridge; grandchildren, Steven Skornia and wife Amy, Tracy Panus and husband Brian, Terri Munson and husband Dan, Kent Skornia and wife Andra, Jeff Skornia and wife Lindsey, Jill Ferguson and husband Darin, Michael Skornia and wife Christina, Justin Eckelkamp, Jonathan Eckelkamp, Melissa Palmier and husband Brendan, Jamie Hanneken and husband Chris, Sara Kriebaum, and Andrew Kriebaum and significant other Talit Speck; twenty-five great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Frye of Springfield, MO; other relatives and many friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at St. John’s Gildehaus Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations can be given to St. John’s Gildehaus.
