Donald Piontek Obituary

Donald J. Piontek, 92, of Washington, passed away on May 11, 2025. Donald, son of the late John Piontek and Elizabeth nee Aholt, was born on July 16, 1932, in Washington. He received his education from St. Peter’s Grade School and St. Francis Borgia High School. On October 12, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lucille Patke at St. John’s Gildehaus Church in Villa Ridge. Mr. Piontek served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army in Korea.

He was a member of the VFW Post 2661, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus 1121, and the St. Francis Borgia Church.

Mr. Piontek was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille Piontek; mother and father-in-law, Philomena and August Patke; siblings, Francis “Jim” Piontek and wife Marie “Rickie”, Lawrence Piontek and wife Sally, Mary Piontek, Rita Skornia and husband Joseph, Robert Piontek, Laverna Piontek, John Piontek and wife Joan, Leonard Piontek and wife Gerry; in-laws, Joe Patke and wife Helen, Al Patke and wife Ethel, Clarence Patke and wife Joan, Francis Loepker and husband Ervin, Rich Eckelkamp, and Joe Voss.

Among his survivors are his children, Donna Hagedorn and husband Steve of Union, Darrell Piontek and wife Shari of Washington, Allan Piontek and wife Tricia of Washington, and Dale Piontek and wife Missy of Washington; eleven grandchildren, Jimmy Maniaci and wife Molly, Melissa Caruso and husband Mike, Shannon Gray and husband Tim, Aaron Piontek and wife Abby, Nicole Brueggenjohann and husband Steve, Holly Wunderlich and husband Dale, Sydney Jedding and husband Daniel, Sam Piontek and fiance Blair, Jack Piontek and fiance Breanna, Maddie Leslie and husband Trent, and Drew Piontek; fifteen great-grandchildren; other relatives, and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Parish and KC Rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at St. Francis Borgia Church. Interment with full military honors will be at the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Pregnancy Assistance Center or St. Francis Borgia High School.
