Dennis Cavin Obituary

Dennis A. Cavin, 73, of Washington, passed away on March 27, 2023. Dennis, son of Ed Cavin and Pearl nee Murphy, was born on December 30, 1949 in St. Louis. He received his education from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1968 and attended St. Louis University. On September 28, 1992, he was united in marriage to Toni Blanke in Ouray, CO.

Mr. Cavin started with the Metro West Fire Protection District in 1975, becoming Battalion Chief in 1985. Dennis was also an instructor for the St. Louis Fire Academy, where the 63rd graduating class was named in his honor. He was also instrumental incorporating the incident command system which is still used today.

Dennis loved to travel, visiting 49 states, 5 Canadian provinces, and 9 European countries. But his greatest joy in life, was his family.

Among his survivors are his wife, Toni Cavin of Washington; parents, Ed and Pearl Cavin of Chesterfield; six children, Scott Cavin, Angela Carrico and significant other Daniel, Michelle Goddard and husband Chris, Meghan Riess and husband Tony, Daniel Cavin and wife Stacy, and Christopher Cavin; four siblings, Terry Cavin, Jill Kertz and husband Andy, Pat Cavin and wife Kim, and Michael Cavin; five grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 4-8 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at St. Francis Borgia Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Backstoppers.
