Delores Lenora Pauline Borcherding, 95, of Washington, passed away on November 25, 2025. Mrs. Borcherding, daughter of the late Robert McDonald and Amalia nee Mueller, was born on November 22, 1930, in New Haven. On July 11, 1959, she was united in marriage to Duthiel Borcherding in New Haven.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duthiel Borcherding; two brothers, Robert and Thomas McDonald and sister-in-law, Nadine McDonald.
Among her survivors are two sons, Bradley Borcherding and wife Sharon of Eldersburg, MD and Bruce Borcherding and wife Jennifer of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Eric Borcherding, Dylan Borcherding, Jacob Borcherding, Cassidy Borcherding, Byron Borcherding, and Benjamin Borcherding; sister-in-law, Marcella McDonald of New Haven; loved ones and many, many friends.
She graduated from New Haven High School and then embarked on a 47-year career as an educator. While still in high school, she started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Etlah and went on to teach in Berger and then New Haven. She continued her own education, taking community college classes until she stopped teaching to do a full year of school to complete her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. After a few years at Webster Groves, she settled in Washington as a fourth-grade teacher. In the 1980s she decided it was time for a change and went back to Missouri University to obtain her certification as a K-12 librarian. She worked in the Washington High School and Junior High School libraries until her retirement in 1995.
She volunteered extensively within the community, served in many capacities within St Peter’s church, and was on the board of Directors for Emmaus Home in Marthasville. Most recently she was a proud member of the PEO Sisterhood.
Delores’ interests were many and varied. Theater, cards, walking and walking some more, biking and swimming laps at the city or neighborhood pool were just a few. She took every opportunity to explore new places and traveled extensively in the US, made several trips to Europe as well as a trip to Australia. She even spent time as a tour guide for Mid-American travel.
As a dedicated Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Wife, Mother and Grandmother, nothing was more important to her than family. She cherished every moment spent with loved ones and friends.
