Carol Babka Obituary

Babka – Carol Ann (nee Holtmeyer), passed into the arms of the Lord on August 24, 2022.  Carol was a selfless, kindhearted woman who was a pillar of her Roman Catholic faith for 84 years. She is survived by five of her six children, Molly Scholl (Chris), George (Susie), Jackie Schlarman, David, and Patrick (Laura).  In 2015, she was preceded in death by her eldest son, James (Donna).   She was the cherished grandmother to 15, the adored great-grandmother to 2, and she is also survived by two of her sisters, Georgia and Rosemary, and many loving nieces, nephews and their families.

The youngest of 11 children, Carol grew up in Washington, Missouri, and attended St. Francis Borgia Elementary and High School.  Born into musical family, she grew up singing whenever possible, mostly in the evenings with her family and through her church.  She was the youngest member of the “Georgettes”, a singing quartet comprised of her and three of her sisters (Joan, Rosemary, and Beatrice) which rose to (modest) stardom with a television appearance on the “Ted Mack, Amateur Hour”.  Fiercely devoted to raising her family, she also had room in her heart for everyone and made friends wherever she went.   She will be missed by all.

A visitation service will be held at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, 1206 Jefferson St., Washington, MO on Friday, September 2nd from 4-6 pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Francis Borgia Church, 115 Cedar Street, Washington MO on Saturday, September 3rd, at 10 a.m., with burial at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery, 1481 Marbach Dr. and luncheon to follow at the St. Francis Borgia Parish Center.
