Carl Vincent Borgerding Sr., 86, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on January 21, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Carl, son of the late Vincent and Cassilda nee Dieckhaus, was born on July 16, 1939 in Dutzow Missouri. He grew up alongside his four siblings. He attended grade school at St. Vincent de Paul School and high school at St. Francis Borgia High School. He was employed at Ed’s Drilling and Blasting for 49 years, where he earned success through hard work. He advanced through the company, eventually being promoted to President, a position he held until his retirement in 2004. He was united in marriage to Tootie Ruether on June 27, 1959 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, where they made a positive impact as parishioners. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and held various roles, including Grand Knight. He also was a devoted member of the Dutzow Community Club, where he held the position of president for many years.
Carl and Tootie were blessed with seven children, and later he became a grandfather to 16 grandchildren, and great-grandfather to 13 (and counting) great-grandchildren. He took great pride in his family, and he was a constant presence in their lives.
He had many hobbies he enjoyed including baseball, bowling, golf, and travel. He also loved playing cards and dominos with family and friends. But he absolutely loved watching his children and grandchildren shine in their own activities. You could always find Grandpa and Grandma on the sidelines as their biggest fans.
He was known for his strong faith, his love of sports, volunteer work, and his devotion to his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and a love of mischief. He cherished moments of fun and togetherness, especially when surrounded by loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tootie Borgerding, his parents, Vincent and Cassilda Borgerding; two brothers, Richard Borgerding and Vincent Borgerding; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Jasper, Jerome Ruether and wife Eileen, Urban “Chick” Ruether and wife Sophie, Thomas Ruether, Marian Ruether, Louise Schwoeppe and husband Marvin, Margaret Holtmeyer and husband Alfred, Anna Wessel and husband Donald, and Joan “Joey” Heggemann and husband Donald.
Among his survivors are his seven children, Barb Holdmeyer and husband Leon of Dutzow, Kevin Borgerding and wife Karla of Dutzow, Dave Borgerding and wife Cindy of Washington, Cherie Breckenkamp and husband Kurt of Dutzow, Carl Borgerding Jr. and wife Diane of Washington, Mike Borgerding and wife Jen of Dutzow, and Mark Borgerding and wife Jodie of Washington; grandchildren, Jenna Tobben and husband Timmy, Rachel Straatmann and husband Travis, Tiffany Desmond and husband Jake, Noah Borgerding and wife Addy, Kurtis Borgerding and wife Andie, Kourtne Borgerding and significant other Andy Skornia, Christopher Borgerding and wife Ellie, Joel Breckenkamp and significant other Kylee Carter, Kelly Rehmeier and husband Justin, Nathan Breckenkamp and significant other Erin Wright, Lauren Bauer and husband Dillon, Sarah Van Rossum-O’Connell and husband Kyler, Emily Borgerding and fiancé Max Williams, Adam Borgerding, Mya Borgerding, and Alexis Borgerding; great-grandchildren, Megan Tobben, Benjamin Tobben, Callie Straatmann, Haley Straatmann, Jayden Borgerding, Milo Desmond, Izaiah Desmond, Margot Borgerding, Ashe Borgerding, Remi Rehmeier, Eliza Rehmeier, Briar Bauer, and Carter Bauer; sisters, Ruth Ann Jasper and Mary Beth Patke and husband David; sisters-in-law, Diane Borgerding and Mary Lee Ruether; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
