Bonnie Kay Scanlan nee Westermeyer passed away on February 26, 2026.
Mrs. Scanlan was born May 18, 1941, in Washington, Mo., the daughter of Paul A. Westermeyer and Emma Marie Westermeyer, nee Kampschroeder. She graduated from St. Francis Borgia Grade and High Schools and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics with a minor in business education from Notre Dame College in St. Louis, followed by a master’s degree in education from Maryville University. She taught in parochial and public schools for 30 years. On April 11, 1970, she was united in marriage to James “Coach” Scanlan at St. Francis Borgia Church. They were blessed with three wonderful daughters and four terrific grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 48 years, James “Coach” Scanlan; a brother Richard Westermeyer; a sister Mary Kopp; and sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy (Albert) Shields and Patricia (Jack) Russell.
Mrs. Scanlan is survived by three daughters: Julie Ann (Brian) Weindel, Jayne Maureen Scanlan (Jessica), and Janel Mary (Scott) Brown; four grandchildren: James Weindel, Harrison Weindel, Madeleine Brown, and Jameson Brown; a sister-in-law Phyllis Westermeyer; a brother-in-law Roland Kopp, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be private.
