Bertha A. Becker, 92, of Washington, passed away on September 24, 2024, in Washington. Mrs. Becker, daughter of the late Gustave Garbs and Bertha Ann nee Meyer, was born on January 12, 1932, in Berger. She received her education from St. Francis Borgia Grade School. On May 24, 1952, she was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Becker at St. Francis Borgia Church.
Bertha A. Becker, aka, Aunt Mutzie to many, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and daughter. She loved to be together with her large family at family gatherings or just a quick stop in visit. She thrived on the noise and chaos of a family barbecue.
Back in the day, a Saturday night meant a night out with friends dancing to a Nick Nixon live band. Even when Alzheimers took her steps, she used her shoulders to keep that beat of the music she loved.
She loved her crafting, crocheting, and sewing, creating beautiful things to share and gift to friends. Until her disease convinced her she didn’t know how.
Now this sweet lady was always down for a day of gambling or an afternoon of bingo. It was definitely her favorite thing to do whether she won or lost. Just the thrill of the big win was exciting enough.
This lady with a warm smile and a brown eyed stare that could freeze her children in their steps, will be missed. But she is free again to walk, talk, dance, and fly. The disease has lost.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth E. Becker; siblings, Mary Holt and husband Layton, Eugene Garbs and wife Viola, Helen Kandlbinder and husband Alfred, Lillian Bockover and husband James, Ervin Garbs, Robert Garbs, Theon Garbs and wife Bernadine, Theresa Mohesky and husband Harvey, sister-in-law, Marcella Garbs, and son-in-law, Joel Clayton.
Among her survivors are her children, Michael Becker and wife Karla of Washington, Marsha Kyle and husband J.R. of Washington, Linda Clayton of Washington, Debra Miller and husband Chris of Washington, Susan Unnerstall and husband Charles of Washington, Larry Becker and wife Wendy of Washington, and David Becker and wife Julie of Washington, Jamie Tucker and husband Mark of Washington, Mathew Becker of Rogers, AR, Kathryn Putman and husband Brad of St. Clair, Lizette Barnhart of Washington, Timothy Kyle and wife Katherine of Fenton, Adam Kyle of Washington, Lucas Miller of Washington, Andrea See and husband Michael of Washington, Amy Alferman and husband Justin of Hermann, Kayla Grissum and husband Bryan of Washington, Abigail Hopkins and husband Chadwick of Owensville; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Danielle, and Brooke Tucker, Miles Becker, Stanley and Kenzie Barnhart, Andrew, Grace, Alice, and Rosalynn Kyle, Dylan and Paetyn See, Layla and Ezra Alferman, Grace, Madison, and Joel Grissum, and Creed, Adelyn, and Hayes Hopkins; siblings, Francis Garbs of Washington and Gussie and Genevieve Garbs of Washington; in-laws, Marita Garbs and Leonard Becker; other relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 10-11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with a memorial mass beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the St. Peter’s Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Franklin County Humane Society or Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
