Barbara L. Hill, 93, of Washington, passed away on August 31, 2023. Mrs. Hill, daughter of the late Carl Rice and Marion nee Lyons, was born on May 21, 1930 in Quincy, IL. She received her education from Quincy High School. On January 15, 1949, she was united in marriage to Charles Hill in Quincy.
Barb worked at Sporlan Value for over 30 years. She loved attending her card club and sewing club as well as playing bunco and bingo. Barb and Chuck loved having student teachers and nurses live with them. Barb enjoyed working with the Oasis program at school helping children with their reading.
Barbs family was always a top priority. She treasured anytime she had with them. Her grands and great grands were the light of her life. She enjoyed attending as many of their activities as possible. When it got where she couldn’t go, Barb waited for them to call to tell her about their games. Barb was “Grandma Barb” to many that weren’t her own.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles “Chuck’ Hill; two children, Dale and Rex Hill; brother, David Rice and grandson, Clayton Hill.
Among her survivors are her daughter, Gail Schroeder and husband Terry of Washington; siblings, Richard Rice and wife Marcella of Bland, MO and Steve Rice and wife Nancy of Washington; grandchildren, Jay Schroeder and wife Stacy of Washington, Corey Schroeder and wife Nicole of Washington, Tricia Nelson and significant other Nick Ford of Washington, Bret Hill and wife Diane of Washington, Casey Hill and wife Joanna of Washington, Nick Hill of Olathe, KS, Travis Hill and wife Shelby of Colorado, and Andrea Hill of Florida; great-grandchildren, Blake, Zac, Grant, Molly, Jacob, Morgan, Tyler, and Joey Schroeder; Makayla and Hunter Nelson, Jackson, Evan, Aiden, Eli, Eden, Finley, and Sophia Hill; in-laws, Keith Hill of Quincy, IL, Roger Hill and wife Norma of Wildwood, Mary Ellen Rice of Florida, and Betty Morehead of Oklahoma; other relatives and many friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 9-11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington, with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the St. Peter’s U.C.C. cemetery in Washington. Memorial donations can be made to the Immanuel Lutheran School or the St. Francis Borgia High School Athletic Association.
