Anna Thiel Obituary

Anna Marie Thiel, 92, of Washington, passed away on June 1, 2024. Mrs. Thiel, daughter of the late John Huellinghoff and Rose nee Kuenzel, was born on August 6, 1931, in Villa Ridge. She received her education from St. John’s Gildehaus. On April 15, 1951, she was united in marriage to Walter “Butch” Thiel at St. John’s Gildehaus Church.

Her and her husband were the owners of the Old Dutch Tavern and Hotel where she was often found in the kitchen cooking! She enjoyed cooking homestyle meals, but her favorites were open-faced roast beef sandwiches with horseradish and fried chicken. In her later years, she worked in housekeeping at Cedarcrest Mannor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Butch Thiel; daughter, Barbara Giesike and husband Bill; brothers, Tony, Fred, Jerry, and Eddie Huellinghoff; brother-in-laws, Clarence Brinkmann and Gerald LaBoube; brother and sister-in-laws Fred and Winifred Theel, Roscoe and Helen Mueller, and Gene and Betty Theel, and special friend Marvin Maune.

Among her survivors are two children, Joyce Johnson of Washington and Rick Thiel and wife Karen of Marthasville; siblings, Jean Brinkmann of Villa Ridge, Rita LaBoube of Washington, Bernice Noelker and husband Tom of Washington, and Mary Schumacher and husband John of Washington; sister-in-law, Davelene Huellinghoff of Union; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 9-11 a.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, with a Funeral Mass beginning at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment will be in the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Franklin County Humane Society or the Washington Area Ambulance District.
