Anna L. (Abbott) Manhart

Anna Lee Manhart (nee Abbott), age 91, of Washington, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at New Haven Care Center. She was born on August 20, 1926, in New Haven to late Louis and Ida (nee Palmer) Abbott and was united in marriage to the late Joseph Manhart on January 24, 1948. Anna was an enthusiastic learner, and embraced opportunities to increase her freedom and independence. And in that spirit, Anna decided that at the age of 61, she should learn to drive and successfully obtained her first driver’s license.  The following year, she studied and attained her GED at the age of 62, and enrolled at East Central College. She retired from her longtime career at Sporlan Valve in 1992, but continued to work at Wal-Mart for another thirteen years. She loved having conversations, visiting, and making new friends with people at Wal-Mart through her position as Store Greeter and at Ponderosa, where she enjoyed sharing meals with others.

A funeral Service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Miller Funeral Home with interment to follow at the St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, December 11, from 3 until 7 pm at Miller Funeral Home. Memorial donations are appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Anna is survived by her three children, Daniel Manhart and wife Debbie of Union, Donald Manhart and wife Cheri of Washington, and Jodi Anderson of Union; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three siblings, Jane Tobben, Kathryn Schultz, and Robert Abbott.
