Obituary

Alfred E. Noelke, 94, of Washington, MO passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023.

     Son of the late Henry F. Noelke and wife Rose B. nee Gerritsen, Al was born in Washington, MO where he graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School in 1947. On August 27, 1949, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Doris Ann Flake. The couple happily celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary in August 2022.

     First and foremost, Al was a devoted husband and father. He had a strong work ethic and remained committed to a lifelong career as a jeweler/business owner of Altemueller Jewelry Store along with his brothers. With the business having roots in Downtown Washington, Al was involved in many of Downtown Washington Inc.’s activities. He was a steadfast business leader in jewelry and gifts.

     Al developed a love of sports that began in high school where he played on the varsity basketball team all four years. Later he served as a member of the Borgia Athletic Association, a committee member of the Washington Buds baseball team, a coach for little league baseball teams, and a boy scout leader. He always made time to play pitch and catch with sons Mike and Tom, teaching them skills and offering encouragement.

     Al is survived by his wife, Doris Noelke, Washington; three daughters, Margit Brown, Labadie; Jerri Hoffmann and husband Dave, St. Albans; Patty Lamke and husband Sam, Washington; two sons, Mike Noelke and wife Marie (Re-Re), St. Louis; and Tom Noelke and wife Lu Ann, Germantown, TN; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

     Al was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters, and son-in-law Randy Brown.

     A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 21 at 10:00 am at St. Francis Borgia Church.

     Interment will be private.

     Memorial donations can be made to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) or to the St. Francis Borgia Food Pantry.

     Arrangements are in care of Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
