Wayne E. Harris, age 70, of Washington, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at New Haven Care Center. He was born on July 14, 1947, in Rome, New York to the late Edward and Clara (nee Campbell) Harris. He was united in marriage to Christine Engemann on September 10, 1994, at Holy Family Church in Inverness, Illinois. Wayne’s early childhood in the Boy Scouts fostered a lifelong love of the outdoors, and his first job was as a paperboy in upstate New York. Over the years, he rose through the ranks in the newspaper and magazine publishing business, eventually becoming the National Retail Sales Director for Outside Magazine. His love of the outdoors and travel made the job perfect for him. He and Chris traveled extensively in the US and abroad; and together they visited forty-nine states and countries on four continents. His enjoyment of reading, chess, science fiction, history, politics, football, music, and cultures meant that wherever they went, he found something to enjoy.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 2 until 4 pm at Miller Funeral Home. Memorials are appreciated to New Haven Hospice Care, New Haven Care Center, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Our Lady Lourdes Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Harris (nee, Engemann) of Washington; two sons, Michael Harris of Ocala, Florida and Matthew Harris of Nashville, Tennessee; one brother, Kurt Harris and wife Kathy of Sanford, Florida; six siblings-in-law, Dolores Henderson of Tallahassee, Florida, Teresa Volkerding and husband Michael of Marthasville, Jenny Engemann of Lake Sherwood, David Engemann and wife Debbie of Marthasville, Carl Engemann and wife Mechelle of Loganville, Georgia, and John Engemann and wife Julie of Marthasville; two grandchildren, Ashley and Sarah Harris of Nashville, Tennessee; other relatives and friends.
