Myrtle Schnarre Obituary

Myrtle Lina Schnarre (nee Nienhuser), of Washington, passed away on October 9, 2018, at the age of 108 years old. Myrtle, the daughter of the late Theodore and Laura (nee Gerdeman) Nienhuser was born on December 22, 1909, in Femme Osage, Missouri. She was united in marriage to the late Herbert Schnarre on May 5, 1935, in Femme Osage.

Myrtle was dedicated to her family and church and was a lifelong member of Femme Osage United Church of Christ, where she was baptized and confirmed. She was also an extremely talented self-taught seamstress. Throughout her adult life she ran a very successful business out of her home designing and constructing original clothing, including bridalwear, performing alterations, and creating home decor and quilts. She welcomed friends and customers into her home any day or time and only accepted minimal payment for her handiwork. She also worked for many years at Kuddes Menswear in Washington, Missouri performing alterations.

 

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at 10:30 am at Femme Osage United Church of Christ in Femme Osage. Interment will follow at the Church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 10, from 5 until 8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Femme Osage United Church of Christ.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Westermeyer of Washington; daughter-in-law, Eunice Schnarre of Mexico, Missouri; four grandchildren, Dana Altermatt and John of Wildwood, Nancy Kopsky and Paul of Chesterfield, Todd Westermeyer and Julie of New Haven, and Kyle Westermeyer of Washington; eight great grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew and Joshua Altermatt, Claire, MaryKate and Caroline Kopsky, and Ellie and Ryan Westermeyer.

 

Mrytle is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Schnarre; one son, Dale Schnarre; parents, Theodore and Laura Nienhuser; one son-in-law, Rich Westermeyer; and two brothers, Erwin and Lester Nienhuser.
