Mary A. Emke (nee Broeker), 70, of Washington, passed away on October 11, 2019. Mary was the daughter of the late David and Ann Broeker (nee Eckelkamp). She was born on April 6, 1949 in Washington. Mary graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School. On October 18, 1969 she married her husband George Emke, at St. Gertrude Church. For many years she worked at Happy Apples and Hodges Badge company. She was a member of the St. Bernadette’s Sodality, the VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mary truly cherished babysitting for her grandchildren and other children she considered her grandchildren and never turned down an opportunity to spend time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Emke; Parents-in-law, Norman and Mercedes Emke; sister-in-law, Becky Broeker; and brothers-in-law, Steve Seiter, Glennon “Dutch” Gerner.
She is survived by her husband, George Emke of Washington; children, Jennifer Tobben and husband Jim of Washington, and Christine Meyer and husband Gary of Marthasville; siblings, Gilbert Broeker and wife Myrt of Washington, Vera M. Taylor and husband Terry of Washington, Glennon “Butch” Broeker of Marthasville, Dale Broeker and wife Valerie of Union, and Richard Broeker of Washington; grandchildren, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Meyer and fiance Drake Gleeson, Richard “Rick” Tobben and fiance Emily Scheible, Theodore “Teddy” Meyer, and Abigail “Abby” Tobben; in-laws, Mary Emke of Washington, Steve Emke and wife Mary of Washington, Marge Seiter of Washington, John Emke of Washington, Greg Emke and wife Janis of Washington, Cathy Steffens and husband Ron of Labadie, Joe Emke and wife Lisa of Washington, and Matthew Emke of Washington; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, from 4 - 8:00 pm at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. A Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. The interment will follow at St. Francis Borgia Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the OLL Church or American Diabetes Association.
