James Filla Obituary

James J. Filla, 91, of Washington, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018. James was born on December 22, 1926, in Washington to the late Gustave and Julia (nee Bleckmann) Filla. He was united in marriage to the late Ina Maschmann on October 16, 1948, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. James was a member of the Sharpshooters Club and Knights of Columbus Seisl Council 1121. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing on the creeks, rivers, and lakes of Missouri, often at a favorite place, Mark Twain Lake. At Mark Twain, he also was the master campfire starter and tender and enjoyed the long evenings sharing stories with friends and family. Jim was a talented musician who loved sharing his gift of music, still singing some days until recently. Over the years, he sang in a quartet and played drums, guitar, and sang in the Bill Dobsch Band.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 18, from 4 until 8 pm at Miller Funeral Home.
